Escape it all in…Fort Mill?
Post by Ben - 8/8/2024
Last weekend we had a lot to do. Swimming lessons and lots of yard work and a general malaise of deep summer heat and humidity. I didn’t feel like going to the breweries in the heat. You know what I could’ve done to shake me out of that funk? Packed up the car and gone to Fort Mill, SC. Really.
Fort Mill is a pretty little town off of I-77 about 20 miles from Charlotte. It’s right there around Carowinds and it makes a great spot to visit if you need a change of scenery but don’t even want to drive 30 minutes. Now, I won’t go completely Tourism Office and tell you it’s a getaway, a vacation from home, an oasis of calm. It is a place you can spend a long afternoon and evening in and feel like you broke out of your routine for a minute. Fort Mill has a large community park and a gazebo to watch trains, but this is a brewery website and we know what you want:
Replay Brewing - If you have a child over the age of 5, you should go here as soon as you can. Little kids will enjoy it too, but any kid who can play pinball (free on Mondays) or old video games is going to be having so much fun. Right off I-77 in the Kingsley shopping area (this means tons of parking) this nerdy-in-a-fun-good-way place has so much to do and see. They have food and activities and they are near lots of good stuff (the most legal fun you can have that close to a Panera). Press Start here.
Amor Artis Brewing - If you have any interest in craft brewing in the Charlotte area, you’ve probably already heard of this place. The hype is there because the beer is great. That’s it. The downtown Fort Mill taproom is the original location and makes a great stop if you are going into town to get a meal at one of the great restaurants there (Improper Pig, Fortes Mill Eatery, Hobo’s and Whitaker’s spring to mind), and always go here before you destroy your taste buds at Pucker Butt down the street.
The Print Shop by Amor Artis Brewing - Same great beer as the downtown taproom (they are only a few blocks from each other), but a whole lot easier to relax and take your time with kids. They have a large, shaded outdoor area here, food is from a permanent truck (The Dining Car), and you can see the greenway and a playground from here. Eat lunch, have a beer, walk a little and repeat. This is why you came all the way to South Carolina.
Untamed Waters Brewing - This spot is a friendly local oriented brewery with a great taproom and patio. They are friendly and have some fun bar food. Here, you can really focus on your schemes to start filling up that YoCo (York County) Passport and find out about the prizes. Plenty of parking and space to move around for little ones, it’s a great stop.
