Great Breweries for Little Kids
Post by Ben - 9/5/2024
One of the things I’ve learned from spending time with a three year old, besides that you can dislike your favorite food, is that they need lots of space to do things. Not all of that is physical space; a calming place could be helpful, an entertaining little spot is cool too, but space to feel it out. You can take a baby most anywhere, and your big kid has learned to keep themselves occupied for the most part. Little kids (kids who are not babies under 5, according to the markers we made up), are tough, but can be fantastic brewery companions. Choose the right spot and you have a great weekend in the bag.
Heist Barrel Arts - North End
One of the absolute best places to take kids and dogs (of all ages) who need space to move, pizza to eat and a skyline view to get your likes on your preferred app. Outside is great no matter the season, cool little landscaping places for your kids to explore. The beer selection is diverse and has something for everyone. I have no jokes for this place. It’s just one of the better choices you can make for a weekend.
Resident Culture - Plaza Midwood
This spot may not have room to run wild, but it’s always filled with kids and those kids seem to be having a good time. Sometimes they are letting a truck go down the ramp, sometimes they are hanging out on the sunny patio (great time to be in the fall sun), sometimes they are sitting (this doesn't seem right but I’ve seen it with my own eyes). A BBQ food truck permanently onsite, the welcoming atmosphere, and fun little places to explore are all part of getting a great beer and learning to ask before you pet cool dogs.
Monday Night Brewing - South End
This Atlanta transplant has one of the great places to let your little kids explore. A log tunnel, little hills to climb, and if you have a little climber on your hands, just walk across the street and sign them up for some Inner Peaks (if they are old enough). Beer and pizza are a great combo, but they have some great cocktail options and a friendly staff that helps a busy place feel easy. Also,a family bathroom for the potty training crowd (it’s not automatic, if that is an issue you are facing).
Suffolk Punch - South Park
This is the brewery in the mall. I don’t know how you feel about being at the mall with a small child (for me, I feel the same as the small child generally), but this is sure to ease any discomfort a bit. Food, cocktails, fun beer selection, a big covered biergarten all are sure to please the adults, and then you have a playground and individual bathrooms to wow the kids. Then, you go to The Container Store, and you tell your child this new bin is to put all of their nonsense in so it won’t be on the floor and then you bring that bin home and your kid puts your laptop in it. You know, a productive afternoon.
