Must Love Dogs

Post by Scott - 7/18/2024

So, full disclosure: I don’t have a dog. I’m allergic to dog hair and it is either easier or cheaper to adopt a child than it is to adopt some doodle. So, please, give me all your feedback on this list. Next, I’ll give you guidance on where to take your cat…another pet I do not have.

Armored Cow (University Area)

  • First off, how is there only 1 brewery in the University area? That’s ridiculous! But if there’s only 1 brewery, I’m glad it is Armored Cow. This spot is perfect for dogs and gluten-wary drinkers, as they welcome all dogs on leashes and brew multiple gluten-free beers. The indoor/outdoor set up allows dogs and owners to move back and forth between the taproom and the porch. Sip a Miss Rosie Gluten-Free or a Bang Bang Hazy IPA while your dog, and you, make new friends. Check it out on a Food Truck Friday where they always have a stacked line up of trucks.

Brewers at Yancey (LoSo)

  • They have a dog park! We’ll discuss the food, the beer, whatever, but they have a dog park! At the back of this brewery, you’ll find a small dog run for your furry friends to wag and play. Take the pups out back, sit on the patio, and hydrate with a Crisp pilsner from Brooklyn Brewing. Hungry? Order a pizza with dough made with their Victory Classic lager. Stop by on Wednesday evenings for Pints and Paws.

Lower Left Brewing (LoSo)

  • This little brewery is just like its favorite dog, Iggy the Daschund, packing all the personality into a small space. Pets are always welcome inside and out and the garage doors let you spend time on the front and back patios. The Bodega food truck is a frequent visitor, so eat some empanadas while you quaff a hazy Juicy McJuiceFace or a Three Hour Tour coconut blonde ale. Keep an eye out for the annual IggyFest, a celebration of all things dog.

Lenny Boy (South End)

  • It’s named after a dog! That dog is in the logo! Lenny Boy puts the dog at the center of the brewery. While dogs are not allowed in the taproom, there’s plenty of room and shade outside to enjoy time with your pup. Lenny Boy is not just a beer spot, as they started brewing kombucha before they got into the beer game. Try  a Spicy Pineapple for a non-alcoholic option or an Elation for kombucha with a kick. Crush a Turkey Bacon Gouda sandwich. No one will judge you if you tear off a few bites for your pup.

NoDa Brewing (North End)

  • Since 2020, NoDa has partnered with The Humane Society of Charlotte for their Rescue Brews can contest. What’s cooler than your cat or dog’s face on a can of NoDa beer? Nothing. At the taproom, NoDa has plenty of room for your dog to hang out. Check out the turf lawn, full of future furry friends. NoDa is known for some great IPAs, like the Slurp Series or the classic Hop, Drop, ‘N Roll, but the taproom is where they get a little weird in a great way. Drink a limited release, see what food truck is stopping by, and let your dog strike pose.
