Snow Days

Post by Ben - 1/9/2025

Did you know snow MIGHT be on the way? We love to break important news on this site. Our team of meteorologists (my four year old who heard it at preschool and my sore knee) have indicated this weekend (1/10-11/2025), Charlotte and the surrounding areas have a chance to break a long snow drought. Now, unless you live in a cool walkable neighborhood in the city, you will be staying home and not taking your family to a brewery.. And I’m sure you are a forward thinker and have already bought your cart full of milk and eggs, but did you forget the beer? This is your chance to stand on the hill with all the other parents and open up an actual cold one. Swing by a bottle shop, brewery, or just a Harris Teeter (this blog is not responsible for any Mad Max like conditions you may encounter while seeking beers in the next few days). Good luck and I hope you have a magical snow weekend and not a cold slushy realistic weekend. Stay off the roads if you can and let your kids do something fun.

This is your guide to building that tasty six pack for the weekend.

The Coffee Beers - I think coffee beers make a great addition to a snow day, you can start pretty early, ‘cause it’s coffee, and they tend to be delicious. Porters and stouts are the usual here, but check out some of the other styles.

Birdsong Brewing -  Wake Up Coffee Vanilla Porter

Lower Left Brewing - Blix Coffee Vanilla Stout

Wooden Robot Brewery - Good Morning Vietnam (and Gingerbread GMV) Coffee Vanilla Blonde Ale

Stouts - A stout in the snow is a good way to do it, but even if it's just a rainy evening these will be great. Also, always worth remembering, you can get a lighter stout if you aren't into a freight train of a beer.

Free Range Brewing - Sea of Companions Oyster Stout (one of my absolute all time faves)

Burial Beer - Skillet or whatever paragraph name bottle looks good.

Divine Barrel Brewing - Zero Lucks Given (Nitro) - Dry Irish Stout

Heist Brewery - Brunch Junkie - Oatmeal Coffee Stout

Fonta Flora - Seasonal Creep Roasted Apple and Caramel Stout (hard to go wrong with a bottle from here, though)

Winter Beers - Flavored for winter with extras or just styles that have to be drunk when you can see your breath.

Middle James Brewing - Up to Snow Good (and UtSG-Coconut) Winter Ale

Lower Left Brewing - South End Santa Oatmeal Cookie Christmas Ale (eh, close enough)

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery - Fat Boy Baltic Porter

Triple C - White Blaze Winter Warmer

Burial - House of Relics

The little bottle shop is great and you always have to grab one at the bar while you are picking up.
